A New Year Greeting from Pastor Cortez

Pastor Freddy Cortez with wife, Corine.

It has been said that the days are long, yet the years are short. As I look back over my life, I see the truth in that statement. I also think that both days and years are getting shorter as I get older. Maybe you feel the same way. Whether we like it or not, we are now entering a New Year. One thing that does not change is God’s Word. In it, God reveals to us how He wants us to spend our time, days, weeks, months, and even years. The Scripture say, “The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever” Isaiah 40:8. A passage that has always been important to me as a pastor regarding the Word of God is found in Isaiah 55:8-11

8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD.
9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways,
And My thoughts than your thoughts.
10 “For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven,
And do not return there,
But water the earth,
And make it bring forth and bud,
That it may give seed to the sower
And bread to the eater,
11 So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;
It shall not return to Me void,
But it shall accomplish what I please,
And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”

What God is saying is to us is that His ways, and thoughts, are not like ours. Said another way, His perspective is not our perspective. We are also told that His Word never comes back void and it will accomplish what He pleases. Think about that for just a moment. We make all kinds of plans in our lifetime, many of them succeed, and often they fail. The reason our plans often fail is because we lack the power to guarantee our plans. In just these few words we see the unstoppable power of God’s Word setting it apart in a class all by itself. I encourage you to read and study His Word, and if you are in the local area why not join is in person?

May God bless you in 2023.

Steadfast in the Word,
